I'm using the C-8 Pro hub and have one Sinope RM3250ZB heavy-duty Zigbee switch controlling my 240 VAC water heater. I'm in the US.
I want to add a switch to control my 2 HP 240 VAC submersible water pump. I have an easy place to install it just after the 25-amp-fused disconnect in the garage.
[Side note: I'm ready to install a Zooz ZEN16 relay unit, also Z-wave, into my driveway gate controller, so that adding a Z-wave repeating device in the garage might help strengthen the Z-wave mesh, as currently I have no other Z-wave devices. But that is really a secondary concern, as the distance from Hubitat hub to ZEN16 is only about 90 feet, with one wall/window between them. So I'm not sure there's any need for a repeater.]
The Sinope unit is rated 3 HP for a 240 VAC motor.
The Aeotec unit is rated 5 HP. However the resistive rating for the Aeotec is only 40A, while for the Sinope it's 50A.
My Sinope unit has been working great for several years now.
Going with the Sinope would be a no-brainer, except for the fact it costs $125 plus import tariff, and their website suggests that could be up to 50% of the price.
Whereas the Aeotec unit is available on Amazon for $105.
Shipping is free in both cases.
The Aeotec unit has input on right, output on left. That is reversed from what would work more naturally in my installation between the disconnect and the pump control:
But in reality I can make either unit fit, and either unit will be pretty easy to install.
Can anyone provide additional comparison considerations between these two units?
I suppose the cost differential is really minor compared to any issues that might arise, in terms of reliability and functionality. I've searched this forum, and find people successfully using both units.
