Might it be possible to request a feature to add more than one geofence boundary please? As far as i read and understand currently it is not possible to add more than one geofence boundary.
The use case for this would be to set a second large boundary to help prevent the garage door from opening when we are walking around our local area and return through the home boundary triggering the garage to open several minutes before we can arrive home, which is a security risk (but is set perfect when a vehicle arrive passes though the home boundary).
If it was possible to add additional Geofence boundary, I would:
setup a secondary geofence boundary larger than the home arrival boundary and large enough to ensure we would not walk past this boundary
once the above is configured i would add a required expression of her phone must trigger "leave" the large geofence boundary to the current rule that auto opens the garage door when her phone enters the home boundary (smaller boundary)
This should prevent the garage door from opening when we go on local walks and/or walk our child to school etc but still allow auto open of Garage door when using vehicle.
Wife wonβt stand for another button to remember push before walking.
I already have several garage door notifications and safety checks and a camera that has visibility of the garage door. The logic is working 100% except for when we walk with our phones (presence sensors)
How about a button you place somewhere in the house or a virtual button in your hubitat app. Press button when leaving for your walk to prevent garage door from opening. Enable the garage door when next the front door opens. Of course the traditional in car garage door remote should work anytime.
IMO there are too many different scenarios to perfectly automate a garage door. Not worth the multiple different risks. So I still use the labor intensive method of pushing a single button as I approach the house.
For leaving it open on accident I have checks which announce (and keep harassing) when it is left open and we close it manually (or via voice command). Has saved me from leaving it open for hours or all night long on a few occasions.
I have, after much testing, concluded the same. I had a great system working via hubitat and node-red and it was working perfectly... until... One day we delayed getting the car out of the garage a bit too long and the damn thing closed as I was backing out. Did a number on my paint and my garage door. Needless to say, the WAF factor went to zero (it was her car) and I turned all of that off immediately.
Might the addition of allowing users to add a second geo boundary be a simple change with little or no financial impact to Hubitat?
If this is correct could this simple request please be considered so those of us that would like to make use of this additional feature, can for what ever logic or use case they have ?
I am using OwnTracks to solve this issue, as I can have all the boundaries that I want and have rules trigger off of them but a built-in option would be nice.
On the garage door, I am on the other side that I only have auto close enabled. I don't want to find out my door has been open because of a glitch or situation that I did not account for in my rules. To help prevent car and door damage, I got one of these when they were still being crowd funded https://infinity-shield.com/
So if your wheel has passed your normal sensor when your door starts to close you get hit. With this sensor it would still "see" your car blocking the door and reverse or even prevent the door from starting to close.
