Hi, trying to add IKEA temp/humidity Matter sensor since they just got them in stock. Reading the manual I have tried both - via Alexa and directly to Hubitat C7. Both fail.
I do NOT have the IKEA Gateway, based on the reading it should work directly correct?
In the Alexa app I get AC001 error - I think IKEA gateway might be required.
Trying to add directly via Hubitat mobile app - I connect locally to the hub, get to the Add device screen (pic1), select Add Matter (pic2) but when I click contiue, I am back on the previous screen - never ending loop.
What reading? (Can you provide a source to make this clearer?) You need a Thread Border router on your network, as these are Matter over Thread devices. See:
If you do not have one, that is what is happening; if you do, I'd suggest using the hub to add the device rather than the app, although it's possible either would work as long as it's already been commissioned.
Says: "Matter devices can also be added using the mobile app (but note that Matter over Thread devices still require a Thread Border Router, or TBR)."
Since the IKEA sensor is not a Thread, I concluded I can add it directly to Hubitat. Is that wrong?
If yes, do I need to add the IKEA hub for $109? That would make the plans to use these cheap sensors (only need 2 of them) a lot more expensive
No, you can use any Thread border router. Several examples, some of which you may already have in your home, are mentioned in the above document (although they are not the only options, and Ikea's is certainly another option).
It always helps to mention the specific model when asking a question. We are assuming the Timmerflotte since you said they just got them in stock. In which case, they are Matter over Thread, so see responses about needing a Thread Border Router. I can understand not catching that though. If I didn't already know it, I see no reference to Thread in the product description (except the reviews), but I'm still on my first coffee.
Thanks, I only have Alexa Echo devices and Hubitat. From reading all of the above Alexa devices should be able to add the Timmerflotte. But it ends with the AC001 error. This was the first step I have tried. Can you please confirm that was the right direction?
Goign to the Alexa app on the phone, found the Timmerflotte sensor -> AC001 error.
Both phone and Alexa Echo is on 2.4Ghz (have to switch the phone manually from 5Ghz)
From there I went via the direct route, thing the humidity Timmerflotte sensor is not Thread (WRONG!).
So back to trying to figure out why I get the error below before adding to Hubitat - correct?
Oh, you are right, I went by the previous thinking that I only need Matter device, which lists:
Many Amazon Echo, Echo Show, Echo Dot, and Eero devices act as Matter controllers, allowing them to bridge Matter-enabled smart home products (lights, plugs, locks) into the Alexa ecosystem over Wi-Fi or Thread. Key supported Echo models include the 4th/5th Gen Echo/Dot, Echo Studio, Echo Hub, and most Echo Show devices.
