Adding 1 Zigbee device to an all Zwave mesh

Currently all my devices are Zwave. There's a deal on amazon for a THIRDREALITY Zigbee water leak sensor. Is it okay to add 1 or 2 Zigbee devices or should I keep it all Zwave at this point?

There should be no problems as long as it's in range of your hub. That being said, adding at least one Zigbee repeater (or more) is never a bad idea -- even if it's, for example, a smart plug (probably one of the easiest such devices to find and use) hidden away somewhere you never use.

I think that's just looking for trouble. The only time my zigbee suffered radio reboots was when I had repeaters-now I have none, and no more reboots.

Also, the water leak sensor is battery operated and kind of "mission critical". The hub should be on a backup, So in the event of a power outage, water leak detection is still viable and not dependent on a mains powered device.

If it's in range of the hub, it's in range of the hub and will find another route on its on if the "parent" (router) becomes unavailable, as may happen during a power outage where it would otherwise use some mains-powered router. Without RF goggles, it's hard to know if such a route would be your hub directly either way--though as I mentioned originally, you will indeed often be OK unless it's a long distance.

Adding a router should not break your network, so something else is likely going wrong in your case, perhaps a misbehaving device, interference, or other localized problem. What that is in your case I cannot say, though I am happy that fixed your problems. However, avoiding Zigbee routers in general is not advice I would give--hence my suggestion above.

On the other hand, I have many (about 20 from a quick count) Zigbee devices that repeat, (bulbs, LED controllers, switches, dedicated repeaters) and I have no apparent Zigbee issues. This is out of 60 or so Zigbee devices.

Someone will in theory run into an issue once you hit the base (32?) device limit that Zigbee has. I am not sure how that will manifest itself, whether you won't be able to pair more devices, or whether it will start dropping devices so a new one can be paired.

Furthermore, they wouldn't make repeaters and repeating devices if they weren't necessary. They call it a Zigbee mesh for a reason, it is meant to be a mesh arrangement, and not a hub-and-spoke arrangement.
