Access Hubitat (and home network) via Unifi Travel Router

New UTR FW release just posted minutes ago...and there is also a new version of the iOS Unifi app that enables FW update - people posted that they got updated to .239 using it.

FW 6.5.240 also listed as "Official" like .238 and .239 in the UI database, but no release notes/posting in the UI forum yet for either release.

...and official release thread for .240!

For me (Android app) Unifi app continues to say FW is up to date on .239. Tapping on the FW up to date line in the app doesn't do anything. Update to .240 via SSH does work, my UTR is updated to .240 and booted up normally.

Speeds appear to be as advertised:

I am quite impressed with this little device. I have been using it now for two days on a remote network to connect home with wireguard. It hasn't missed a beat and has worked the entire time.

Though it was a ruff start getting it updated and such. It has worked well once i got it configured and setup.

Cool, glad it's working for you.

Agree about the rough part, they still have more work to do. Very rough start.

I hope to find time to get out to a local coffee shop to play w/mine remotely as well.

I just used it for two days at a hotel with a captive portal. It worked well for the most part. I'm running .239 currently.

Wireguard works great. Teleport from the UTR doesn't work at all for me. It just times out and fails to connect even though a client connected to the UTR can connect to my home gateway over Teleport.

New Android Unifi app 10.33.2 release (following yesterday's release of updated iOS app 10.31.4)...not showing in play store yet.

These two should be helpful:

  • Added already configured UTRs to the discovery pop-up.
  • Fixed UTR firmware update not showing up when available.

Mine was able to update its firmware automatically in the iOS app yesterday when they released 6.5.240.

Good thing, too, since I still can’t can’t ssh into the damn thing.

It’s got an IP address on the list of WiFi clients in the Unifi app.

I’ve tried SSH’ing while it’s connected to internet with WiFi, and then with (known good) Ethernet cable in LAN and then WAN ports.

No dice.

I guess I’ll try connecting a laptop via the UTR’s Ethernet LAN port next.

Is the UTR bound to your unifi network with one of its SSID's

Are you trying to use the ip from the client shown in the ui on your gateway or or the gateway ip for the UTR.

I have updated mine 3 times now with SSH. Each time my device was connected to the UTR via the SSID it is broadcasting. I had to setup a SSID that wasn't bound to my home unifi network when home to ensure i was connected to it. Then i used the network ip for thr UTR's local network. I think it defaults to 192.168.2.1 but i changed mine to 192.168.150.1. So i ssh to 192.168.150.1 and then run the upgrade commmand.

All that said now that they got the option in the network app like they should have from the beginning, just do it there.

Bingo, that was it.

I actually had tried one time with an ssh client on my iPhone while definitely on the UTR’s WLAN. But I forgot to change the IP address to the UTR gateway address.

Should’ve been obvious enough that was the issue but I missed it.

Thanks @mavrrick58 and also @tomw who suggested the same thing in a PM.

Sorry, what option are you referring to?

To update the firmware. It was added in the latest version of the Android App.

Firmware 6.5.244 just dropped. I got the new android app yesterday and as soon as i connectedt he UTR to the internet after i saw that i got prompted a new firmware was avaliable. I was able to update it from the Android app on my phone..

That is how it should of been before it was released.

100%! But they caught up in a little over a week. Bet a fire was lit under the team's butts. But not their fault it was forced out too prematurely.

I woke up to the UTR FW update...it is nice to see it working as expected.
