Fair enough.
I was think more along the lines, how about when the roof starts deteriorating needs replacing? Do weird things happen, even if you have a rubber membrane over the wood decking (i'm thinking metal roof)? Does the deck automatically have to be removed and spray insulation re-applied when replacing roof? That kind of thing. Experience gained over time.
It's probably common to run all sorts of things through HVAC ducts, whether they should be or not.
It doesn't meet code unless its "plenum" cable. Last thing you want in an HVAC duct is a cable emitting smoke or dangerous fumes due to overheating, a fire in the ductwork, etc. Plenum rated cable is made from material that won't do that.
In North Texas my house only has cold air returns in the hall way, living room and one bedroom. My last house only had one big cold air return up stairs built in to the closet where the air handler was located.
That's very common, contrary to the original post. (It's a regional thing, as most home construction methods are.) That method uses undercut doors to provide the return path back to the unit.
You'd think... Unless your house was built with radiators originally, and when they put in forced air they just put in vents with no returns. Well, there's ONE return, a massive one on the first floor. The second floor "returns" are the staircase.
I'm not getting anything ran anywhere in my house without plaster work.
