A NEW type of Light Fixture - HA Avaailable?

Hello.
I'd like to know if anyone has experience with a NEW (at least, it's new to me) type of light fixture. I'm putting in a link to a couple of them from amazon. These fixture seem to have RF(?) control via a separate remote control, and can control on/off, colour temperature, etc.
Does anyone have experience in automating these types of fixtures?

@jtmpush18 First you would need something with an open api to convert wifi/z-wave/zigbee to that lights RF channel. I mean honestly you could do this with any light fixture with a proper bulb and a button controller.

So, do you think that it's RF that is used on these things?

Therefore, would the Boradlink interface be able to control it?

According to the specs it says RF. As to the frequency it doesn't say so I can't tell you if the dlink interface would work or not.

According to the seller, it is IR. See below:

Please excuse my ignorance for the follwing questions.
(When they gave me an engineering degree, they didn't know what they were doing!)

  1. Is there a specific rf frequency that bond/broadlink work on, and only that frequency? In other words, the bond or broadlink hub work on only certain frequencies and therefore may not be able to issue the commands for that particular light fixture?

Yes.

However, these lights are not RF controlled. The controller uses IR, so Bond wouldn't work for sure.

OK.
In general, therefore if I get an RF controlled device, and I get the Broadlink to "learn" the signal, and I can control the Broadlink from Hubitat, then I can do it?

RF has a much greater range than IR anyway, right?

I have no experience with Broadlink, but if it can learn, then you are correct.

RF can go through walls. IR cannot. It is strictly line-of-sight. I have used IR controllers from ~30 ft away, but it was line-of-sight with no obstructions.

I know that Hubitat staff must have looked into making a supported Boradlink interface. It seems to be a very common type of device that is used extensively in Europe. I'm not sure why that interface wasn't pursued.
(I think that a popular youtube influencer called for it as well.)

I'm not sure of the state of the community based interface, but I will look into it.
Thanks for the guidance.

I have no idea if this device would be workable for the referenced fixture. It was a google result for the search "zigbee IR". Here is the link if it helps you proceed...
IR - Zigbee

the remotec zxt-310 will work since it's IR (Thanks @aaiyar I didn't read the q&a section)

Very likely true. As long as the IR frequency used by this light falls within the range supported by the zxt-310, which memory says is 300-450 GHz.

I am just wondering why they make it look like its 4-5ft across in these pictures... but its only just under 12 inches.

Lol, That's hilarious. This is really weird because these Chinese companies are always known for their ethical practices.

RM4 Pro is IR and RF 315 (305~335MHz) and 433 (430~440MHz) capable. I can learn just about any unencrypted RF remote. I have one and it works great.

HA has a built in integration but the setup was such a bear, I chose instead to use a Homebridge plugin that was really easy to setup.

@SmartHomePrimer
Can you please elaborate on your HomeBridge plugin?
How did you get back from the HomeBridge plugin back to Hubitat?

I don't know about Broadlink, but I have brought other sensors from HomeKit back into Hubitat via Homebridge, by using Home automations to flip Hubitat virtual switches exposed to Homebridge.

This exactly :point_up_2:t2:

This is the plug-in I used. It’s worth looking through his release notes as it a pretty capable plug-in and you might find other use cases in the future. Super simple to work with. If you’re familiar with Homebridge and editing the config.json file, then it’ll be a breeze for you.
