I’d like to take a moment to remind everyone of a few general community guidelines that help keep this space useful, welcoming, and productive for all members.
This community exists first and foremost to help people learn about Hubitat Elevation, share knowledge, and exchange constructive feedback. Healthy discussion, differing opinions, and critical feedback are absolutely welcome—but they need to stay respectful, focused, and actionable.
A few important reminders:
Stay on topic. Threads work best when they remain focused on the original subject. If a new idea or concern comes up, starting a new thread helps keep conversations easier to follow and more useful to others.
Be respectful. Disagreements are fine; personal attacks, inflammatory language, or repeated accusations are not. Address ideas, not individuals.
Keep feedback constructive. If you’re highlighting an issue, explaining what isn’t working and why is far more helpful than broad or repetitive grievances.
Use the appropriate categories:
-
Feature requests and product feedback belong in the Feedback section so they don’t get overlooked.
-
The Lounge category exists for topics that don’t neatly fit into another category or don’t require a dedicated one. That said, with a few limited “break room” exceptions, threads in the Lounge are also expected to follow the same community guidelines and remain strictly related to the Hubitat Elevation platform.
Avoid prolonged side conversations. Extended back-and-forth exchanges between a few individuals can drown out the original discussion and reduce its value for others.
Respect moderation actions. If a post is flagged and moderators agree with the reason for the flag, please avoid making minor word changes simply to unhide the post. Instead, take a moment to reflect on the feedback. You are welcome to revise the content to bring it in line with the guidelines, but repeated flags for the same post—especially attempts to bypass moderation—may result in removal of the post, temporary restrictions, or even permanent suspension from the community.
Moderation actions—such as closing threads, redirecting discussions, or asking users to refocus—are not intended to suppress viewpoints. They’re meant to preserve clarity, usefulness, and the original intent of the discussion.
If you ever feel a post or thread needs moderator attention, please use the flag feature rather than engaging further.
We appreciate everyone who contributes thoughtfully and helps make this community a valuable resource. Your participation and feedback play an important role in improving both the platform and the community experience.
Thank you for being part of the Hubitat community.
