I have the Hubitat Elevation hub and the water sensor works fine. But if it disconnects, it never reconnects. I also have a ZWave device that reconnects after disconnection.
I have tried googling and even ChatGPT, but haven't been able to get a definitive answer on whether this is how Zigbee works, or is it a fault with the device (or hub)?
You would expect any protocol to have the ability to reconnect. Or ping or something.
With Zigbee if a device disconnects you can add it back and it should go right back in the same slot it was in, so to speak.
During the pair process it should tell you it's a device that was previously connected. I have one of those sensors and its been pretty solid. Never had a water leak in the area it's located but it shows that it is up and running, been in use for about a year now, still reporting 100% battery. So how accurate that is I don't know.
@terminal3
Just out of curiosity, did you use the Triple A batteries that came with the sensor?
For all of the water sensors that came from 3rd Reality, the batteries were all at 85%.
I honestly don't remember but I am pretty sure I did. Don't know why I would have used anything else. It is in my crawl space and I don't go under there but every few months. Next time I am under there I will take a look and make sure it is still actually working.
I had to connect mine about 4 times before it would stay connected. I think adding a repeater near by helped and moving it slightly away from the metal washing machine.
