I am running two hubs, one for everyday automations and stock apps and one for user apps. On the main hub I have a zwave+ network of about 40 devices. I am still building it out but its relatively stale and fast.
I've got a couple closets with lights directly adjacent to both hubs that I'd like to automate lighting in. I am thinking about using a couple legacy Leviton Zwave switches that I have but am thinking of setting up them up on their own network.
I guess the question is how will two zwave networks work overlapping each other?
It works. The packet size is so small that collisions are rare; the system was designed that way. Packet headers keep the traffic distinguished. Realize, though, that they are separate networks, and have to be built out separately to be strong.
Edit: perhaps I am misunderstanding what you want. Do you want the user apps on one to control devices on the other? If so, you can use Hub Connect or the new Hub Mesh to allow that to happen. Or, if you want each to be in a walled garden, then they can stay that way.
I think that is a very smart idea, imho. I am running 3 Z-Wave networks in my home and I am not experiencing any issues. I think you should give it a try and see how it works for you. Isolating legacy devices and not mixing them with Z-Wave Plus is brilliant. Don't let @bcopeland see my post, though
Probably shouldn't have tagged me if you didn't want me to see
Nature of the beast as I do z-wave development, I have 3-5 z-wave networks running at any given time. Sometimes on other country frequencies to do driver development for overseas devices.
Now.. My advice would be to try and keep busy production networks separated physically to minimize impact.. But if it is just a collection of switches and such and not a bunch of meter reports, it should be fine for overlap..
Hopefully this isn't too far off topic, but how about other Z-Wave networks? I have a Ring alarm system (very simple, two contact sensors and one motion detector) Recently I've noticed a couple of missed events on the Ring. I have a routine to turn on outside lights (for the dog) and at least twice in the last 2-3 weeks no light. I then have closed the door and opened it again and it works. When I check the logs on the Ring there is no event shown for the first time but is correct on the next event. Of course no trigger to Hubitat. The Ring is about 15 feet from the door with no obstructions.
Thinking about buying Z-wave toolbox referenced in a different thread.Z-Wave ToolBox - ZWP-TBX β ZWaveProducts
