2.4.4.129 - Thread support?

I see that "2.4.4.129" supports thread devices like the "Ikea Alpstuga Air Quality Sensor" but how, everytime I try to add it it says I need a "Thread Border Router" to add it, if I need a secondary device (Apple/Amazon/Google Hub) the how can you say it thread compatible if I can't directly add thread.

I do not want to rely on a cloud device to connect to the hub. that just creates another point of failure, and already experienced that issue, I know Matter over wifi worked, via the app.

Is there plans on a new hub that has matter fully baked in. (Wifi, Bluetooth, Thread (zigbee radio))?

I dont know the Amazon or Google variants well enough to speak for them, but the Apple TBR’s dont need a cloud to be a TBR. If you want a super no cloud option there is Home Assistant. Depending on skillset HA is not an easy option, but it can be done.

Hubitat does not have a Thread radio in any current hub and rarely comments on future plans. The notes in this document would be good to look at -- nothing changed with 2.4.4, aside from some Matter updates and new drivers that don't really affect regular use:

Not all Thread Border Routers talk to the cloud. There's no reason any needs to, but anything Amazon or Google (and Samsung unless something has changed) is probably not a good choice if you care about that. I don't know the extent to which Apple does anything by default, but I think use of iCloud with Home is optional and end-to-end encrypted if you do use it, so Apple is pretty much only acting as a relay if you're away from home. And, of course, there are DIY solutions that are less friendly to set up but give you more control if you want it.
