New twist on an old bug.
Z Wave crash detected but it appears to have recovered. No shutdown/power pull required this time.
Much less of a nuisance if z-wave auto-recovers. If in fact that's a fix that was put in place.
New twist on an old bug.
Yup. Auto-recovery from Z-wave crashes is a recent firmware functionality addition. It seems to work quite well.
It was
I have several devices that aren't reporting since the crash. Some respond to commands but don't send a repsonse back to the hub. A few are fine.
Try and shutdown and unplug for 30 seconds, I assume that will fix it but would be good for devs to know that the crash still had lingering effects.
The old shutdown/power pull did get things back to normal as expected.
This issue reared its ugly head again. Twice this week in fact.
Also according to the event log on this device, Z wave clearly was not functioning between the time of the crash and the power pull reboot.
I'm going to try switching to the Hubitat provided power supply rather than the Anker 6 port unit this hub was plugged into. I plugged in an inline usb voltage tester in and observed voltage drops from the Anker when the load of the hub increased. It's my understanding that the C8 z-wave radio doesn't like voltage fluctuations like these. Original power supply tests are much more stable with very slight voltage increases when hub load increases.
Update: It's been a little over a month since I switched this hub to the Hubitat power supply. I've had 3 z-wave crashes since, the third being last night coinciding with backup failed step: z-wave. Auto recovery does not appear to work in my case, or at least not in full. I still need to do a shutdown/power pull combo to restore full functionality to all z-wave devices. I kept this hub on .158 during this period.

I haven't seen any posts regarding this issue which leads me to believe it was remedied for others but here I am. I'm going to reduce my backup frequency from daily to weekly to reduce the chances of further crashes but I'm hoping I can get some insight on what might be happening.
