[2.3.9.142 and 2.3.9.174 - C8 and C8 Pro] Hub mesh was lost

I was running 2.3.9.142 on my two hubs (one is a C8, the other is a C8 Pro) and decided to try upgrading both to 2.3.9.174 tonight.

After the upgrade, all the meshed devices on both sides were OFFLINE. The Hub Mesh page on both hubs shows no hubs available. I've rebooted both hubs, rebooted the router, rebooted the hubs again, etc. I clicked the "refresh" button next to "Active hubs" several times, clicked "reconnect" and that had no effect.

I ended up going back to 2.3.9.142 on both--and, still, no mesh.

However, after maybe 10 minutes or so, it came back to life on 2.3.9.142.

There seems to be a dose of black magic on how the hub mesh finds it's buddies--has something changed with the way the hub mesh works?

Note that I'm using static IPs. Both hubs are plugged into a small network switch right off my ASUS router--there's nothing complex about my network. I was able to ping from each of the hubs to the other one using the Network tools.

I guess I'm going to wait a bit before i try upgrading again...

Thanks!

You might need to wait the same 10-15 mins after the upgrade. The release notes mention:

  • Tweaked network and cloud reconnect logic.

and I think that new mechanism, seemingly different from before, takes a bit to 'march correctly'. Subsequent upgrades / reboots seem to recover in a minute or so.. but that first time, might be longer.

Could try forcing it using:

http://<yourHubIP>/hub/advanced/setInitialHubMeshPeers?<IP of Hub1>, <IP of Hub2>…

on both hubs

I tried the upgrade again today--waited a bit and the mesh connected this time. Guess there's no telling why it was acting cranky the other day...

Thx!
